Raising money for Streets to Kitchen: supporting Square Food Foundation’s work with St. Mungo’s Bristol
Thursday 15th November, drop in any time from 6–8pm

Drop into Better Food Café at Wapping Wharf for our Giant Pumpkin Party! You’ll enjoy a hearty bowl of Giant Pumpkin Soup, fresh bread and a crisp beer or fruit punch, plus get the chance to guess the weight of our monster pumpkin’s even bigger sister, and enter a super prize draw to win fantastic prizes from local artists, eateries and more.
All profits go to our Streets to Kitchen project, raising £10,000 to support the work of Square Food Foundation training clients of St. Mungo’s Recovery College in cookery and food service skills, and reinvigorating the College’s kitchen facilities. The project aims to open doors, build confidence and improve wellbeing for people affected by homelessness in Bristol.
Thanks to The Community Farm for donating their giant pumpkins, to Hobbs House Bakery for donating delicious bread, to Arbor Ales for divine beer, to Square Food Foundation for their culinary skills and to the many generous local contributors to the raffle.
We believe that achieving our vision of a better, fairer food community means looking beyond the food on our plate and out into the world around us, starting right here in Bristol.
Tickets £7.50. For information and booking, see: better-food-giant-pumpkin.eventbrite.co.uk
We’ve launched an ambitious campaign to raise £10,000, which will help people in Bristol affected by homelessness to learn new skills and build confidence, whilst empowering them to find their own route to recovery.
The money that our staff and customers raise will be donated to Square Food Foundation – a charity based in Knowle West teaching people of all ages, abilities and from all walks of life to cook good food from scratch. Square Food will use the funds to launch a brand new training programme in partnership with St. Mungo’s Recovery College in Bristol, teaching clients of the college cookery and food service skills, reinvigorating the college’s disused kitchen facilities and inspiring peer to peer learning.
Through gaining these skills in weekly sessions, clients will gain confidence both in and out of the kitchen, develop vital life skills and improved wellbeing and be encouraged to cook for others, potentially in a professional capacity. The hope is that this programme’s impact will reach beyond just the first year’s trainees, and Square Food will work closely with St. Mungo’s clients, giving them the confidence to share their skills with others and ensuring that the college’s wider community benefits from the programme.

Over the coming months, our staff and friends of Better Food will be going all out to raise as much money as they can for the Streets to Kitchen Campaign. There’ll be opportunities to contribute while you shop too – just keep your eyes peeled for special promotional items in our stores.
